Ultra-Lite harp frontUltra-Lite harp back

Testimonial—December, 2012
Dear Sue and Alex,
I am so glad I can finally play the new harp in my house. It is really beautifully made, especially I love the sound and resonance. Thank you very much for everything you have done for me. I am really grateful. When I first saw your web-site, I thought "I want to play the harp Alex made." I had never thought of buying a harp via Internet, it is so risky. But I followed my intuition. I was so attracted. And now I know my first expression was right. It is a big Christmas present for myself. I will play the harp you made in a lot of concerts and I am sure people will love it.

Dear Alex and Sue:
In 40+ years of being a harpist, I've played and enjoyed many different harps. But playing my new Ultra-Lite has been like a reawakening to the beauty of the instrument.
You know, I fell in love with this harp at the Somerset Folk Harp Festival for its incredibly sweet and rich tone. My friend and I were walking around the conference showroom and stopped "dead in our tracks," because Whoa! Someone behind us had started to play one of your harps, and we had to find out where that big, gorgeous sound was coming from.
But now that it's home with me, I am constantly discovering wonderful things about this harp. Like, how easy it is to find the harmonics on it. How incredibly responsive the harp is, allowing me to be very expressive, with a great tone, both loud and soft. The string tension feels perfect—the pluck seems to leap off the finger! I feel the physical vibrations of the sound more intensely than I can ever remember feeling, sitting behind a harp.
Lately, I've been noticing how beautiful the wood is. I like so much about it... the figure of the wood, the way the soundboard is one piece, not two matchbook pieces (it's just more interesting!), the beveling on the curved arm and the point. I love the overall design, with the subtle double curve of the soundbox—I particularly love that, the whole design looks so beautifully fluid; how lightweight it is; even the little hole drilled into the brace, to hold the tuning key out of sight but handy... That's such a great detail, and I've never seen that before. The range is ideal, going down to the low C, and the bass booms out deep and satisfying, surprisingly so for this sized harp.
It feels like this harp was made by someone who knows what it's like to play a harp. I feel very aware of the harpmaker's genius when I play it, because it's so exceptional: the visual aesthetic of its design, the craftsmanship of the woodwork, and most of all, its exquisite sound.
So, thank you so much! I feel refreshed as a harpist.
